Filming at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum

Last week, our video production team had the privilege of filming at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum in Colorado Springs—a world-class facility that celebrates athletic excellence through stunning design and immersive storytelling.

From a videography standpoint, the building itself became a character in our production. Its flowing, aerodynamic architecture mirrors the grace and power of the athletes it honors, offering a cinematic backdrop from every angle. We used aerial drone footage to capture the museum’s sweeping curves and reflective surfaces against the backdrop of Pikes Peak—adding scale, motion, and a sense of place that ground-level shots alone couldn’t achieve.

Inside, we captured intricate details of the museum’s memorabilia and interactive exhibits—each piece telling a story of determination and legacy. Using professional videography techniques, we focused on composition, camera movement, and lighting control to highlight the emotional connection visitors feel when standing inches away from a gold medal or watching archival footage of Olympic triumphs. Every shot was designed to balance beauty with authenticity, giving viewers the sense of walking through the museum themselves.

Technically, this was one of those museum videography shoots that demanded constant attention to exposure and shutter adjustments. The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum features a wide range of LED lighting—from soft, warm accent lights to bright, color-shifting displays—that vary not only in intensity but also in flicker rate. To maintain clean, flicker-free images, we continually fine-tuned shutter angles, ISO, and white balance throughout the day. It was a true test of real-time adaptability, ensuring each exhibit was rendered with accurate color and contrast while preserving the atmosphere of the space.

We also conducted on-site interviews with guests, many of whom shared how the museum inspired them to reflect on their own personal goals. Their energy and emotion added an authentic human dimension to the visuals. A highlight of the day came during an inspiring talk by Michelle Dusserre-Farrell, Olympic gymnast and museum ambassador, whose words reminded everyone that the Olympic spirit isn’t just about victory—it’s about resilience, inclusion, and the pursuit of excellence.

For our crew at Mile High Films, the project was a perfect blend of documentary storytelling and architectural cinematography—showcasing the skill, patience, and technical precision that define great videography. We left feeling proud to highlight another Colorado landmark that embodies the power of dedication, design, and the stories behind greatness.
